Camping Trip Fun in Madison

By Lindy - Posted on 08 August 2011

Lake Farm CampgroundThe 2011 summer camping returned to the beautiful Lake Farm Campground in Madison, Wis., the site of the our last two club camping trips. Scheduled for July 29-31, the weekend delivered on its promise of a three-peat of fun.

Both tent sites (non-electric) and RV sites (electric, water and sewer) were available, so Prairie Riders could camp in the level of comfort they desired. The club targeted sites 21 though 36 and ended up booking nearly all of them, thereby surrounding one (fortunately friendly) family who was at the campground for a nearby folk music festival.

Club members formed a small regatta on Friday and headed out for a fish fry and a quick dip in the river. Upon returning to the camp, we gathered for a campfire and enjoyed camp cooking thanks to Gavin. Who knew Oreos and marshmallows tasted so good in a pudgie pie?

On Saturday morning, a club potluck breakfast made sure that everyone had a good "base" before a day of boating in the sun. Lynn and Paula, Pete and Terrie, Paul and Yvette, and Billy and Linda all brought campers and cooked a feast of pancakes, French toast, eggs, muffins, bacon, sausage and more for the nomadic tent/SUV dwellers.

For our Saturday regatta, we had four boats and went boating on the lakes and river, and we enjoyed cameo appearances by Dennis, Linda and Kat. The weather was perfect both days on the water. Also, Brian brought his jet ski and the kids and Pete enjoyed tubing and some knee-boarding. However, Brian was apparently bit by a fresh water bull shark and sustained minor injuries.

After dinner at Christy's Landing, the Prairie Riders returned to the campground to enjoy a surprise visit by Becky and Glenn for the Saturday night campfire.

On Sunday, Chris, Rachel, Ryan and Kristen continued the Sunday tradition and went boating with Twizzlers and spray cheese. Somehow, Chris wound up in Iowa and Ryan's phone became a mini aquarium, reports Jody. Another great trip by the Party Riders!

The campground offered many amenities and entertainment as it is close to Lake Waubesa and the Capitol City State Bike Trail. In addition, there are two restaurants — Christy's Landing and the Green Lantern — on the lake nearby. Goodland Park also is close by and has volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, a softball field, play equipment, an unsupervised swimming area, and a boat launch.
